The VMware vCloud Director® Object Storage Extension™ plug-in enables Cloud4U users to access object storage options directly from the VMware vCloud Director cloud services control panel. The plug-in mediates between vCloud Director and S3 by leveraging the S3 API. Users need to contact their manager to use the service, and then the functionality is available to them:
Creating and deleting buckets
Creating credentials for connection to S3
Export a vApp from VMware vCloud Director to S3 and import it back
Creating and publishing directories
Once the service is connected, Object Storage functionality becomes available in the control panel.
- bucket
Go to Bucket in the panel and create it:
We can see the list of bucket:
In the created bucket, you can upload files directly in the panel by pressing the UPLOAD button and view the contents.
- Connection credentials.
To connect to the bucket or buckets, we need credentials, which can be viewed or created (CREATE) in the corresponding menu.
download the S3 Browser software and, after a simple installation, configure the connection to our bucket:
Specify connection point as s3-k41.objstor.cloud4u.com:443, data Access Key ID, Secret Access key
according to the data we received in the panel earlier.
Go to advanced properties, and set Patch Style mode.
After this, we will be able to successfully connect and see the created bucket and files in the control panel.
In addition to user credentials, you can also create one for applications in a similar manner.
3.vAPP
In S3 it is also possible to host templates of prepared vApps and use them as a storage directory and with subsequent upload into OVF format.
In order to place vAPPs in the S3 repository, they must be switched off. A maximum of 10 vApps can be added at a time.
Following the wizard
Some time after the copy task is completed, a copy of the vApp will be created in S3.
If you wish to restore vApp from S3 to the Control Panel, run the Restore Wizard:
- Catalogs
You can also create directories in S3.
and publish them.
Make them generally accessible to different categories of users.
