How To Install Ubuntu From a Template?

In the vCloud Director interface, select "Compute" from the left menu, and then "vApps". Click on the "NEW VAPP" button.

In the pop-up window, specify the name of the virtual application and (if necessary) a description. Then, click "ADD VIRTUAL MACHINE".

In the next window, specify the name of the virtual machine, the computer name (which will be set as the hostname of the guest OS; there are restrictions on characters used, and a warning will appear if inappropriate characters are used), and a description (if needed). Make sure the "Type" option is set to "From Template".

Note: The list of templates may be very long and is divided into multiple pages. To better search, use the filters below.

On the list of templates, select the desired template and click the checkbox (represented by a dot) to the left of the template name.

Please note that for better quality of work, it is necessary to select a template from the catalog of your data center. To determine which data center your virtual infrastructure is located in, we recommend reading the article.

If the caption and check box are not visible, please slide the vertical slider all the way to the bottom of the window. After completing the settings, click "OK" to return to the previous window. Make sure the desired option appears in the virtual machine list. If everything is correct, click "Create."

After completing the settings, press "OK". This will return you to the previous pop-up window. Make sure that the one you need appears in the list of virtual machines. If everything is OK, click "Create".

A "Please wait" message will appear above the virtual application name.

Wait until the pop-up window closes and the virtual application will be created. You can find the virtual machine under "Virtual Machines."

The Ubuntu operating system offers customization options. To access them, go to the "Virtual Machines" section and click on "DETAILS", without starting the virtual machine first.

In the menu, navigate to "Guest OS Customization". Check the boxes for "Allow local administrator password" and "Generate random password"

After confirming the changes by clicking "Save", start the virtual machine by selecting "Power On" from the "Actions" menu. Wait until the machine has fully started (it is recommended to allow a few minutes for the process). Then, go back to the "Details" menu and you will see the newly generated password in the previously blank field. Remember or jot it down for future reference.

If the virtual machine is already running, stop it using the "Power Off" option in the "Actions" menu, follow the instructions above for customization, and then restart it with "Power On".
